Alpha Engineering & Design (AED) is an engineering and manufacturing leader specializing in vacuum chambers and turnkey systems. We have provided precision manufacturing and engineering to these industries: Aerospace, semi-conductor, solar/wind power, robotics, cryogenics, conveyor, and defense

AED has been involved in the defense industry since our beginning. Many of our vacuum chamber systems have been used for defense research and development.

We have built numerous chamber systems for the calibration of missile guidance systems and defense satellite research. Following is a short list of technologies we continue to build and develop:

·         Cryogenic systems:

Cryogenic shrouds and shields for use in vacuum applications. The cryogenic systems serve to emulate the temperatures of outer space for real-scenario research and development.

·         Optical benches:

These highly complex benches are used for mounting optical systems in a vacuum chamber for the purpose of calibrating missile guidance systems.

·         Walk-in vacuum chambers:

Many of the defense systems are outer space-based and need to be developed in vacuum chambers.  We specialize in building walk-in chambers that can house bulky, heavy equipment for such purposes. Our “O” ring-sealed chambers are capable of reaching pressures of 10^-8 Torr.

·         Ultra-High vacuum systems:

We have done several UHV projects, one of which was a retrofit of a chamber built in the 1960’s for use by the Apollo program. This chamber actually analyzed the lunar soil brought back from the first moon landing. After our retrofit of the chamber we were able to achieve a base pressure of 3.4 X 10^-11 Torr.  

Unfortunately, in today’s political climate where a nation must be on guard against rogue states with ballistic missile technology, development of these systems is paramount for national security and world peace. One day missile defense shields will be deployed here in the United States and around the world. AED is proud to be a leading contributor to the development of these progressive defense systems.
